What is your compass? By that I mean, what is it that guides you? How do you determine what is the truth about the world? About how you should be? How you should think about things? How you should do things and spend your time? What is your compass?
It can be many things, and often is many things for any one person. Many times, the culture of one’s time and place can play a large role in one’s compass. What one’s political party, feelings, friends, or church culture dictates is right. What will cause the least conflict. What will impress other people the most. What will get someone ahead financially or into more security.
I am seeking for Jesus to increasingly be my compass. I am working to change how I view myself, the world, what I think about things, what I do, to be shaped around pleasing Him and how He thinks about things. This is an ongoing process for me every day as I am human, fallible, and still living in this world. So, I'm trying to have my compass be Scripture (Psalm 119:105; with humility in my understanding of it, trying to understand it comprehensively and in its context), asking the Holy Spirit to guide me into all truth (John 16:13), and looking to Jesus’ example of how He did things (1Peter 2:21 and many others that talk about Him as our perfect example). As Christ and I walk out this process, I find that life can become more peaceful along this way.
"Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30
I am hoping to increasingly put writings here that take a topic (such as rest) and attempt to look at it in the light of how God looks at this topic, best I can discern.
